“Everything here really is made from scratch, and diet be damned, I ate almost everything on the menu.

From the buttery grits (comes with butter on the side, but no need to guild the lily) to the savory fried chicken, I was in food heaven. The atmosphere is adorable and nostalgic. We spent a good 20 minutes looking at the vintage pictures on the wall before settling into my booth for a full blown pig out. I am a huge fried pickle fan, and the ones here did not disappoint. They were thinner than the ones I usually eat, but special in their own way. Their hamburger is also a force to be reckoned with. I’ve never had a hamburger on a bun made fresh that day, with pickles made especially for the burger. Every burger I’ve had since pales in comparison.

The love and pride Cookin’ From Scratch took in making their food brought me comfort when I was far from home. If I’m ever in the Ozarks again, I’m definitely coming back for more!”

“Stopped here on my drive from San Diego to Chicago. What a pleasant find along the way.

I had the rib eye (medium rare) with coleslaw and tater tots (now that’s living). The meal also came with what appears to be a homemade biscuit. The biscuit was delicious and not overly lardy. I am not sure what location Gordo R. went to but this one was real nice. Very clean restaurant in my opinion (mind you this is coming from a germaphobe). I had to have the rib eye because I was told long ago that the best meat comes from the Midwest (none of that 45-day dry aged beef stuff... personally I call that rotting meat). The steak was prepared perfectly and the coleslaw was great. I was so glad to find this place considering I hadn’t had any luck at any of the spots I stopped at west of here along the I-40.”
